(670 The Score) The Cubs managed to score just 10 runs in losing three of four games in their series to the Pirates over the weekend.

While the Cubs were playing without shortstop Dansby Swanson and second baseman Nico Hoerner and also faced a pair of young aces in Pirates right-hander Jared Jones and right-hander Paul Skenes, Chicago’s production was nonetheless disappointing and exacerbated a recent trend. In their past seven games, the Cubs have totaled just 17 runs.

And in going 9-13 in their past 22 games, the Cubs have averaged 3.3 runs, which would rank second-to-last in MLB if extrapolated over the full season.

So what’s up? Whatever it is, it’s a big problem, as they discussed on the Mully & Haugh Show on Monday morning.

“It’s almost like they’ve hit some weird tipping point where they’re missing just one or two guys too many, and they’re not able to manufacture runs and they’re not able to hit for power," Mike Mulligan said. "And so you didn’t see any runs. That was an entire series that was a failure from an offensive standpoint – not good.”
