Cubs outfielder Ian Happ is confident a turnaround is coming for him: 'Trust the back of the baseball card'

(670 The Score) A key player in the Cubs’ hopes for this season, left fielder Ian Happ has endured prolonged struggles at the plate.

Happ is hitting just .208 with two home runs, 14 RBIs and a .624 OPS in 43 games. Cubs manager Craig Counsell chose to sit Happ for two games last week with the hope that he would emerge from the slump, but Happ has just one hit since.

However, Happ is confident he'll start producing soon, as he explained on the Bernstein & Holmes Show on Tuesday.

“When you’re struggling, you’re going through it and grinding a little bit, it’s easy to take that stuff home with you,” Happ said. “It’s easy for it to be the only thing you think about and I think the more you go into it, tinker and try to find stuff, the deeper you can dig yourself. For me, I really believe in the process. I really believe in the work I'm putting in and the things that I'm doing. I think the at-bats over the last four days were better, (but) the results weren’t there.

“That’s the hardest part – is, like, telling yourself the process is good, we’re having deep at-bats, I'm getting to a place where we’re not chasing, swing and miss on off-speed in zone. The results aren’t there yet. But they will be. You got to trust the back of the baseball card. You got to trust what you’ve done your entire career. There's a part of regression to the mean that is coming. There are some really hard-hit balls, some positives that are bound to come.”
