Bears believe DJ Moore, Keenan Allen and Rome Odunze will seamlessly complement one another

(670 The Score) Among the Bears receiving corps, DJ Moore believes it could be a race to 1,000 receiving yards between himself, six-time Pro Bowler Keenan Allen and rookie Rome Odunze.

But the Bears also know well that the success of their dangerous receiving trio will be traced to how Moore, Allen and Odunze can complement each other, and they're plenty confident in how that will work, as new wide receivers coach Chris Beatty explained.

“You start with DJ, he’s one of the best in the world with the ball in his hands,” Beatty recently told reporters at Halas Hall. “As far as his ability for in-breakers and creating opportunities after the catch, he’s as good as it gets in any league. Keenan, having worked with him the last (couple of years), does a little bit of everything. He works third downs like nobody in the business. He’s able to work the middle of the field, so he can do a lot of things in that regard. Rome can complement them by being a contested catcher outside the numbers. He can do some things outside on the deep part of the field to complement those guys and their games.”

Moore, 27, had 96 receptions for 1,364 yards and eight touchdowns in the 2023 season, his first in Chicago. He was acquired by the Bears as part of the blockbuster trade that sent the No. 1 overall pick in the 2023 NFL Draft to the Panthers. Beatty served as the wide receivers coach for Moore when he played collegiately at Maryland.

The Bears acquired the 32-year-old Allen from the Chargers in exchange for a fourth-round pick in March. He posted 108 receptions for 1,243 yards and seven scores in 13 games last season. It marked the fifth time in the last seven years that Allen had 100 or more receptions. Beatty is also plenty familiar with Allen, as he was the Chargers’ wide receivers coach for the last three seasons.

Odunze, 21, was the No. 9 overall pick in the NFL Draft in late April. He was a standout at Washington, recording 92 receptions for 1,640 yards and 13 touchdowns last season.

“He’s got complementary skills to the guys we have now,” Beatty said of Odunze. “So, I think he can bring some things to the room that we don’t currently have in there as far as his length. He’s still got the speed to take the top off, and he’s smart. We wanted to make sure we had the right type of people in the room.”

The Bears began OTAs on Monday at Halas Hall, marking the next phase in their offseason program.
