The Cubs Are Wasting Time With Their Complacency

After a disappointing series against the Atlanta Braves, it is clear that changes need to be made. The bats have run cold and the strange insistence on keeping Kyle Hendricks around is digging the Chicago Cubs into an even deeper hole.

As the calendar turns to June, the sample size that they'll be able to turn around grows smaller. All this core has is a late-season collapse that serves as a painful reminder of what may lurk around the corner.

For the Cubs, the belief that everything will be fine is starting to wane. While starting pitching has been a bright spot, it continues to be wasted on the inefficiencies of the offense and bullpen. Injuries occur, but that should not be an excuse when other teams deal with the same.

The latest roster moves have been questionable, to say the least. Alexander Canario is dominating Triple-A Iowa , but when promoted he has been nonexistent in the Cubs' gameday plans. Luis Vazquez appears to be suffering the same fate.

With the returns of Dansby Swanson and Nico Hoerner, the team elected to send Pete Crow-Armstrong down in favor of Vazquez who has since only appeared in one game as a pinch hitter.

It seems to be such a waste as the lineup regulars continue to struggle on offense. Since Pete Crow-Armstrong was sent down, he has done nothing but produce. As a top prospect, what good does it serve to be constantly moving from Iowa and back?

The insistence on Kyle Hendricks remaining with the team has been bizarre. He has been given many chances to show that he is not good anymore. Instead of slowly peeling the band-aid, it's time to rip it off and move forward. The decision to move him to the bullpen reeks of complacency for where this team is at.

Multiple moves need to be made to the roster. The Cubs do not have a serviceable catcher on the roster. Miguel Amaya has not shown much and Yan Gomes is showing his age.

There doesn't seem to be a real sense of urgency here. You can only "wait and see" for so long before losing too many games that should have been won. Jed Hoyer needs to be working the phones for solutions. If the Cubs continue treading water, time will not be on their side.
