After a shameful performance on Monday , the Chicago Cubs finally broke a five-game losing streak at the perfect time. The North Siders couldn't afford to leave Milwaukee without a win, and they're hoping Tuesday's triumph over the Brewers is the spark they need to get them back on track.

Ben Brown was historically dominant with a seven-inning no-hit performance . Pulling him from the game may have been a questionable decision, but a win was of utmost importance and the Cubs got it this time.

Chicago's offense was dormant for most of the game but came to life just when it seemed all hope was lost. The Cubs bat still need to make adjustments moving forward, but generating momentum in this crucial series was a positive development.

    Tale of the Tape

With Freddy Peralta on the mound for the Brewers, it set up a challenge for the slumbering Cubs' offense. Peralta struck out all three batters in the first and it seemed things were heading in the wrong direction quickly.

But the tides turned in the third inning as Michael Busch hit a solo home run to put the Cubs up 1-0. From then on, both starters made it a pitching duel. Ben Brown was impressive as usual, and he provided another reason why he should stick around in the starting rotation.

With Brown flirting with a no-hitter, losing this game would've been devastating for the Cubs. The defense did everything it could to help preserve the performance.

Cody Bellinger made a spectacular catch to rob a home run from Willy Adames in the seventh inning. It was bittersweet to get even with Monday's hero for the Brewers.

Heading into the eighth inning, Craig Counsell chose to end Brown's day at 93 pitchers by bringing in Hayden Wesneski for relief. The no-hitter went by the wayside as soon as Brown departed, but Wesneski got out of the inning unscathed.

Hector Neris came in for the closing duties, and everything was falling into place with two quick outs. But with one strike left to get, the Cubs found a way to spoil a good thing with the Brewers tying things up.

The Cubs escaped the inning in a tie thanks to Adames trying for an unsuccessful double.

Things weren't looking good for the visitors, but what came next was a pleasant surprise as the Cubs broke out of their offensive funk with five runs in the 10th inning. The first run was the result of a heads-up play from rookie Luis Vazquez.

With a 6-1 lead heading into the bottom of the inning, the Cubs made things interesting once again. Milwaukee brought in another two runs, but Tyson Miller finally shut the door on his former team to secure the victory.

    Takeaways

The Cubs were reeling entering Tuesday's game. The odds were against them, but they found a way to snap their losing streak.

Ben Brown has been a revelation since his call-up, and the Cubs continue to face the great dilemma of where he belongs on the pitching staff. He has proven he can start games but has also shown a knack for ending them. Regardless, the Cubs have a stud on their hands.

Tuesday's effort offers hope that the Cubs' offense may be turning things around. Luis Vazquez's intelligent play on the base paths should force the Cubs to finally come to their senses and play him more.

One negative was Craig Counsell's decision to bring Nick Madrigal into the game. Monday's error should've been the final nail in the coffin for his career as a Cub. With a gluttony of young talent, it's long past time for the Cubs to move on from the light-hitting, underperforming infielder.
