Brent Rooker Could Help Solve Cubs' Power Outage

    By Bobby Foster,

    2024-05-29

The Chicago Cubs are missing home runs from their offense this season. Cody Bellinger and Seiya Suzuki have struggled in the power department lately, and it's shown in the team's final scores.

Generating traffic on the base paths is one thing, but bringing runs home is what's most important. The Cubs may have an affordable solution at their fingertips as Oakland A's outfielder/DH Brent Rooker is a candidate to move at the 2024 MLB trade deadline.

Why Brent Rooker Is an Ideal Trade Target

Brent Rookier has shown that his production is sustainable in 2024. Even better, his .280 average is higher than his 2024 mark. The 29-year-old has been one of the bright spots in an otherwise terrible situation out in Oakland.

If the Cubs are truly set on Christopher Morel manning third base, Rooker's fit as a DH makes sense in the Cubs' lineup. His ability to play the outfield could help take the burden off the regular starters as well.

Rooker's contract is also very team-friendly. With team control through 2027, the Cubs might value Rooker more than a rental option. However, that contractual control would lead to a high asking price from Oakland.

Regardless, the Cubs at least have the resources to get a trade done if they view Rooker as an ideal fit for their lineup.

If Jed Hoyer inquires about Rooker, he may have some competition. The Atlanta Braves may be a suitor for the righty's services after the season-ending injury to Ronald Acuna Jr. over the weekend.

If the Cubs want to shed their timid reputation , being bold with solid acquisitions may help turn around their season. Brent Rooker presents a unique fit that the team should explore.
