The Chicago White Sox announced two roster moves over the last 24 hours. Before opening a three-game series on the road against the Milwaukee Brewers, the club optioned third baseman Bryan Ramos to Triple-A Charlotte and recalled infielder Lenyn Sosa.

The South Siders are off to the worst start in franchise history and currently hold the worst record in baseball. It seems prudent to give a young crop of minor leaguers more playing time at the big-league level for the sake of development. Both Ramos and Sosa fall into this category, but Sosa has struggled over parts of three seasons in the majors. In 249 plate appearances, the 24-year-old has posted a disappointing .177/.200/.304 slash line.

Bryan Ramos, on the other hand, hasn't played above the Double-A level until this season. Chicago promoted him while Sosa and Danny Mendick were on the injured list. The 22-year-old batted .281 in 34 plate appearances over 10 games, providing the White Sox offense a brief but much-needed spark. However, after a short stint on the IL , he went hitless in 14 plate appearances over five games, leading to his demotion.

This move is somewhat puzzling, as Lenyn Sosa has yet to demonstrate much potential beyond some sporadic power, struggling with consistent contact. He doesn't provide left-handed hitting or speed and is average at fielding. Chicago may believe that Sosa can reach his potential and produce some semblance of his career minor-league numbers.

However, there has yet to be an indication of his priority in playing from Chris Getz or manager Pedro Grifol.

Lenyn Sosa must show significantly more production than his two hits in 12 games before his recent demotion. It's uncertain how much playing time Sosa will receive with infield starters such as Danny Mendick, Paul DeJong, and Nicky Lopez still in the lineup.

Nonetheless, the White Sox feel that Bryan Ramos needs more development in the minors, and there's still hope that Sosa can reach his potential. If Sosa's improvement doesn't materialize, Ramos could soon find himself back in Chicago.
