Andrew Vaughn was absent from the Chicago White Sox’ lineup on Friday and isn’t penciled in Saturday, and we now know why. Manager Pedro Grifol said Saturday that Vaughn is dealing with a sprained left ring finger.

Vaughn suffered the injury sliding into third base during Wednesday’s game against the Toronto Blue Jays. Grifol placed a 3-5 day recovery timeline on Vaughn’s injury, adding that Saturday is the third day of it.

Much like the rest of the White Sox, Vaughn is enduring a dreadful 2024 season. Once billed as a high-end hitting prospect, the 26-year-old is slashing .199/.264/.313 with four home runs and 19 RBIs.

When healthy, Vaughn will continue to get plenty of run in a talent-thin White Sox lineup this season. However, if he doesn’t make significant adjustments that produce meaningful results, especially in the power department, he could be a non-tender candidate in the offseason.

In the meantime, Gavin Sheets will man first base. The White Sox are back in action Saturday against the Milwaukee Brewers. First pitch is at 3:10 PM CT and the game will air on NBC Sports Chicago.
