Despite records of 29-31 and 24-35 for the Chicago Cubs and New York Mets, respectively, ESPN has flexed their June 23 game into the Sunday Night Baseball slot. With much better matchups on the calendar , including the Atlanta Braves vs. the New York Yankees, the Cubs and Mets are tabbed for national television.

ESPN is highlighting the Cody Bellinger-Pete Alonso matchup as a part of this game. That said, there's a strong chance that both players are in different uniforms next season. Nonetheless, the matchup is set in stone for the series finale from Wrigley Field.

The full ESPN broadcast crew will be in Chicago for the game. Although ESPN is showcasing these two below-.500 teams, there's a chance that things improve, at least for the Cubs. The Cubs have a softer schedule in June and need to take advantage of it. The first test involves the Chicago White Sox before the Cincinnati Reds, Tampa Bay Rays, St. Louis Cardinals, San Francisco Giants (twice), Mets, and Milwaukee Brewers grace the rest of the month's schedule.

Chicago needs to get going. Otherwise, this matchup on June 23 could be one of the worst of the season for Sunday Night Baseball. Although the Cubs could make a move for the rumored available players by then, it's more likely that the teams will look the same come this national TV matchup.
