When the Chicago Bears win games, make the playoffs , and send Caleb Williams to the Pro Bowl, the offensive line will be the underappreciated heroes. Williams is a unique talent at the quarterback position and is one of the highest-touted prospects since Andrew Luck.

There are many pieces that need to fit into the puzzle that is professional football for a team to find success, let alone a rookie quarterback. The ultimate team game comes down to cohesion, application, and operation on the gridiron. But how do the Chicago Bears ensure Williams has "it"?

Bears Must Keep Caleb Williams From Being Sacked

During the most recent episode of ' Bears Weekly ' on ESPN 1000, Jeff Joniak, Tom Thayer, and Jim Miller discussed the veteran minicamp beginning and how Caleb Williams can find success.

Joniak referenced a Pro Football Focus statistic that Kansas City Chiefs quarterback, Patrick Mahomes, reaped the benefit of over the last several seasons. En route to winning their third Super Bowl, Mahomes was able to "stay on schedule" to operate the Chiefs' offense, avoiding sacks nearly all season long.

Over the last six seasons, Mahomes was never sacked more than 30 times in a given season. That's fewer than two sacks per game, which lets him run the offense accordingly without fear of losing yardage.

Until the Wild Card playoff matchup against the Miami Dolphins in January, Mahomes had the ability to run the offense exactly as Andy Reid and company planned it. When plays broke down in the frigid temperatures at Arrowhead Stadium, Mahomes was forced to use his legs to either extend the play or earn a first down.

The Chicago Bears need to adopt this philosophy, which sounds incredibly bland and obvious. But it's important for a rookie quarterback like Caleb Williams. Over the last few years, the Bears haven't been able to protect their quarterbacks.

Justin Fields, Mitchell Trubisky, Andy Dalton, and others were constantly rushing their decision-making because of offensive line breakdowns. That needs to change for the new-look Chicago Bears.

If they can keep Caleb Williams from being sacked often, then he can operate the Shane Waldron offense, leading the Bears to victories. There will undoubtedly be speed bumps along the way. However, head coach Matt Eberflus and the offensive line can make this process as easy as possible by keeping Williams from being tortured in the backfield and forcing an escape from a collapsing pocket.
