LAKE FOREST, Ill. (670 The Score) During a recent team outing at Topgolf, a fun evening turned into a late night for rookie quarterback Caleb Williams and a handful of Bears.

Topgolf was preparing to close as Williams and Bears teammates continued to swing away. Tight end Cole Kmet and reserve quarterback Brett Rypien, a scratch golfer in his own right, were winning the competition with the 22-year-old Williams.

Williams wasn't ready to concede, even as Topgolf shut down for the night. When the computer screens were turned off to reset the scores, the Bears’ group convinced Topgolf staff to turn them back on so they could continue their game.

Williams didn’t want to lose, though he was defeated by a pair of strong golfers in Kmet and Rypien.

“You realize how competitive he is,” Kmet said.

Kmet and many of Bears veteran players have quickly bonded with Williams, the No. 1 overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft. Kmet joined Williams, receiver DJ Moore, receiver Keenan Allen and others at Wrigley Field the weekend following the NFL Draft, and they've had many group outings since.

Williams has made a strong early impression on Kmet and the Bears.

"He wants to be remembered for a very long time,” Kmet said. “So, I think he’s ready for this opportunity. He just has the demeanor about him that you have to have, feeling like he can succeed here for sure."
