Appreciating Bears CB Tyrique Stevenson's Rookie Season

Chicago Bears' general manager Ryan Poles has seemingly hit on most of his significant draft picks to date. Although the 2024 class remains unknown, his 2022 and 2023 crops of talent have included some good finds. Players like Kyler Gordon, Jaquan Brisker, Braxton Jones, Darnell Wright, and Gervon Dexter Sr. have enjoyed early success as they begin their careers in Chicago.

Furthermore, there's a fair argument to be made that the eighth cornerback taken in the 2023 NFL Draft was one of the best picks Poles has made.

With the 56th overall selection in the 2023 NFL Draft, the Bears selected Miami cornerback Tyrique Stevenson. Stevenson was known as a bigger, lengthy corner, but no one could've envisioned the success he found in his rookie season.

As noted by Marquee Sports Network's Bears coverage, Stevenson was the top rookie cornerback in interceptions (4), and tied for first in both forced fumbles (2) and passes defended (16).

Stevenson just turned 24 and should only get better as he gets used to the NFL game. His rookie campaign also featured 77 total tackles , good for fourth on the team.

The Miami product's rookie season is worthy of celebration. The Bears' defensive secondary is built from within, and with the latest addition of Kevin Byard, the unit should have another quality season. Growth from Tyrique Stevenson will also be key, as the Bears have an incredible unit when he, Jaylon Johnson, and Kyler Gordon are at the top of their game.
