White Sox Sign Michael Chavis to Minors Deal, Per Report

The Chicago White Sox are taking a flyer on Michael Chavis by signing him to a minor-league deal, per ESPN's Jesse Rogers . Chavis, a journeyman infielder, began the season with the Seattle Mariners organization before opting out of his minor-league contract.

Michael Chavis's Journey to the South Side

The 28-year-old bounced between four organizations prior to signing with the White Sox. Selected 26th overall in the 2014 MLB Draft by the Boston Red Sox, Michael Chavis made it to the big leagues and played parts of three seasons with the club. He then spent time with the Pittsburgh Pirates and Washington Nationals organizations before latching on with Seattle.

Chavis owns a career .242/.281/.341 slash line with 42 home runs and 142 RBIs across 1,186 big-league plate appearances. In 46 games with Triple-A Tacoma this season, the Georgia native slashed .290/.366/.485 with seven homers and 29 RBIs across 191 plate appearances.

The White Sox haven't confirmed the signing as of this writing, but it seems likely they'll assign Chavis to Triple-A Charlotte when the deal is official. If nothing else, Chavis could be called upon as a fill-in when the Sox start shipping off players ahead of the MLB trade deadline .
