Nick Madrigal has not had a good stretch of luck. Following a demotion to Triple-A Iowa by the Chicago Cubs, Madrigal has already suffered a setback. According to Tommy Birch of the Des Moines Register, Madrigal suffered a fracture in his left hand after being hit by a pitch. There is no current timetable for his return.

Madrigal debuted in his latest Triple-A stint on Wednesday with the Iowa Cubs. In two plate appearances, Madrigal had a hit and a walk. Unfortunately, his redemption tour to return to the majors has been put on pause with the latest injury.

Such a freak injury is disheartening for the Cubs infielder, especially after being sent down in favor of David Bote. As mentioned, there is no timetable for his return, so Madrigal could easily miss time for the next month or two, if not more.

In MLB, Madrigal has a .221/.280/.256 slash line with 10 runs driven in and five runs scored over 51 games. Unfortunately, Madrigal wasn't much more than a defensive replacement with the Cubs, and when things reached its worst, he was sent to Triple-A. Madrigal's only Triple-A game in 2024 was off to a good start before the injury forced him to leave the game.

The Cubs will likely provide a further update in the near future, but there is a strong chance that Madrigal will be hitting the injured list as a result.
