Will Patrick Kane ever return to the Chicago Blackhawks? It's a question hockey fans have been pondering since the franchise legend was traded to the New York Rangers in February 2023. Despite some offseason speculation that the sides may reunite, Blackhawks general manager Kyle Davidson essentially put a damper on the Kane talk Friday.

"He did have a really good year," Davidson said of Kane at the 2024 NHL Scouting Combine. "We’re all really happy to see that after having his hip procedure last offseason. That was great to see. I think we made some really tough decisions on some longstanding players. I don’t foresee us going back on that."

Kyle Davidson faced a major crossroads in past seasons but ultimately parted with franchise cornerstones and pushed the Blackhawks into a full-scale rebuild. One of those decisions was trading Patrick Kane, who finished last season with the New York Rangers before signing with the Detroit Red Wings in November 2023.

With his one-year deal with Detroit set to expire, Kane will hit the open market again this summer. The decorated veteran is coming off a 47-point season despite playing in just 50 games, positioning him for a nice payday from a contending team.

While the Blackhawks know they must take a step forward in their on-ice results in 2024-25, reuniting with Kane seems to be an unlikely avenue as Davidson holds firm in his stance regarding former franchise cornerstones.
