The Chicago Cubs are one of the worst teams in baseball lately. It's the result of key lineup figures going cold simultaneously while the bullpen continues to falter daily. While fans prod the team to act swiftly in the trade market, Jed Hoyer is singing a much different tune. According to the team's President of Baseball Operations, the message is patience as he believes the answers to the Cubs' problems must come from within... for now.

Hoyer's message is already receiving pushback from the fan base. Nonetheless, his philosophy makes sense. Right now, the trade market isn't favorable to what the Cubs want to do. With so many teams still in contention because of the new expanded playoff format, the Cubs will likely have to wait until closer to the deadline to make a move.

Still, preaching patience to the fans isn't going over well as the North Siders continue to stumble on the field.

Since leading the division on April 29 at 18-11 , the Cubs have gone 14-24 throughout May and early June. Trailing 0-1 in their current three-game set against the Tampa Bay Rays, the time to begin righting the ship is now. Tuesday's loss serves as a prime example of the flaws hindering the Cubs.

Hoyer followed his remarks about patience by noting the team will be aggressive at the trade deadline, but one question must be posed. Will it be too late by the time the deadline comes?

Sure, the Cubs are only 0.5 games out of a wild-card spot, but they're a full seven games behind the NL Central-leading Milwaukee Brewers. By the deadline, the bar may be lowered to a wild-card berth, which likely isn't enough to really help the Cubs get things going.

Patience is a virtue, but it isn't something the Cubs' fan base has right now given the team's place in the standings.
