The Chicago Fire resume MLS play on Saturday in Canada when they face off against Eastern Conference rival Toronto FC in a match that the road team desperately needs a point from.

The Fire (3-8-6, 15 points, 14th in Eastern Conference) have been without Xherdan Shaqiri in their last three games as he prepared for EURO 2024 with Switzerland and they've yet to lose. Chicago secured five points, including an exciting 2-1 upset win at Soldier Field over the LA Galaxy after going down a goal within seven minutes. Hugo Cuypers contributed to a goal in each of those three matches and Brian Gutiérrez scored a fabulous match-winning goal to send his side into the international break with a win.

Chicago defeated Toronto 1-0 last July but that goal came from Kacper Przybyłko through an assist from Miguel Navarro, both of whom are no longer with the club.

That three-match unbeaten run for the Fire came directly after they went seven matches without a win while only scoring twice during that span. The Fire might be able to sneak into a playoff spot but they need results against a fellow Eastern Conference side like Toronto FC going forward.

Toronto (7-7-3, 24 points, 6th in Eastern Conference) will be without starters Federico Bernardeschi and Nickseon Gomis after the two were sent off in their last match before the international break and starting goalkeeper Sean Johnson as he prepares for the Copa América with the United States Men’s National Team. The remaining squad will be looking to make it three unbeaten when Chicago arrives on Saturday.
