After a late start to his second season with the White Sox, Mike Clevinger pitched to a 6.75 ERA in four starts before going on the injured list (retroactive to May 25) with right elbow inflammation . The right-hander initially hoped a cortisone shot would help him return to throwing quickly, but that scenario didn't come to fruition.

Now, Clevinger is set for at least two rehab starts with the Charlotte Knights. He's scheduled to take the mound Tuesday and Sunday against the Gwinnett Stripers, per MLB.com's Scott Merkin .

When Clevinger returns to the White Sox, manager Pedro Grifol hinted that he may employ a six-man rotation. Doing so could help the South Siders preserve Garrett Crochet in his first season as a starter and lighten the load for rookie hurlers Jonathan Cannon and Drew Thorpe .
