The Chicago Fire have opened up a supplemental roster spot for the remainder of the 2024 MLS season while giving their 2024 first-round pick, Bryan Dowd, an opportunity to get competitive minutes.

The Fire have an agreement in place with Huntsville City FC, Nashville SC’s MLS Next Pro affiliate, for Dowd to join the Alabama side on loan for the remainder of the MLS Next Pro 2024 season, sources have told On Tap Sports Net's Joe Chatz.

Dowd, 22, hasn’t played for the Fire or the Fire’s MLS Next Pro side, Chicago Fire II, since being drafted. He was expected to be the club’s fourth goalkeeper but lost those minutes to Fire Academy product Patrick Los after sustaining an injury during the preseason.

Dowd joined the Fire after an historic career at Notre Dame where he collected a clean sheet in 75% of his 32 wins and was named Top Drawer Soccer ’s National Player of the Year for 2023. Dowd was previously a member of the Fire Academy before joining Chicago FC United and competing for them in USL League Two while in college.
