A lot will be asked of Gervon Dexter Sr. this upcoming season. With Justin Jones departing the Chicago Bears, Dexter Sr. will assume the starting role of the three-technique, a crucial spot in Matt Eberflus’s 4-3 defense.

As of now, Dexter Sr. is doing everything he can to succeed. He has undergone a serious offseason training plan which saw him drop 10 pounds while gaining five pounds of lean mass simultaneously. The Florida product is showing the Bears organization that he's committed to developing into a premier player in the NFL.

Alongside his physical transformation, Dexter Sr. has also improved his mentality before the season. One way he's doing this? Goal setting. The second-year player has written down four distinct goals on his phone lock screen, serving as a constant reminder of the standard he is holding himself to.

Dexter Sr.'s goals are certainly lofty. A stat line of 8+ sacks and 15 tackles for loss is a stat line that few true defensive tackles can accomplish unless their name is Aaron Donald (who did so in nine separate seasons). If he accomplishes his listed goals, Dexter Sr. would move into the elite category of interior defensive linemen in the NFL. Doing so would give the Bears another serious threat on the defensive line besides Montez Sweat and help move Chicago's defensive unit into a tier of its own.

Gervon Dexter Sr. must step up this season for the Bears to succeed in 2024, and from what it looks like so far, he's more than ready to do so.
