The first interior renderings of new apartments planned along LaSalle Street downtown have been released.
The big picture: The city of Chicago's LaSalle Corridor initiative is designed to bring market-rate and affordable residential properties to the traditionally corporate and commercial corridor in the Loop to offset the loss of retail and commercial office spaces since the pandemic.
Flashback: Built in 1914, the 22-story building at 208 S. LaSalle St. was originally designed by D.H. Burnham & Co. for the Continental and Commercial National Bank.
- The property was designated a Chicago Landmark in 2007.

Zoom in: When the renovation is finished, the building will offer 226 apartments, which will reside on the 13-16th floors. The residents will share the building with the JW Marriott Chicago hotel, which is already open.
- The mixed-income project will set aside 30% of the residences as affordable housing for those who qualify.
- The renovation is designed by Chicago's Lamar Johnson Collaborative and Lucien Lagrange. It will be developed by The Prime Group, Inc.

What they're saying: "In addition to breathing new life into an under-utilized Chicago landmark, The LaSalle Residences will help bring back some of the 24/7 vibrancy to Chicago's downtown financial district lost during and after the COVID pandemic," architect Alan Barker said in a release.
State of play: Earlier this month, the city approved up to $26.2 million in tax increment financing for the new LaSalle Residences.
- The other addresses that are slated for conversion are 111 W. Monroe St., 30 N. LaSalle St. and 79 W. Monroe St.
What's next: Developers plan to start construction in early 2025.
