With the 2nd overall pick in the 2024 NHL Draft, the Chicago Blackhawks selected defenseman Artyom Levshunov out of Michigan State University.

Levshunov had an incredible freshman season at the Michigan State University last season. He tallied 35 points (nine goals, 26 assists) in 38 games in his first collegiate season, showing off his defensive prowess and his offensive ability.

Levshunov earned Second Team AHCA All-American, B1G Defensive Player of the Year and Freshman of the Year and also earned First Team All-Big Ten, Big Ten All-Freshman team honoree, NCAA All-Midwest Region Team, was a Top Ten finalist for Tim Taylor National Rookie of the Year honors, and was a Hobey Baker nominee. The big defenseman was one of the best hockey players in collegiate hockey.

The Blackhawks learned a lot about Ivan Demidov in Florida just a week or so before the NHL Draft. However, that wasn't enough for them to take the Russian winger with the second overall pick.

Here's what Elite Prospects had to say about Levshunov:

Levshunov is quick, nimble, explosive, able to keep up with the play going forward, backward, sideways – you name it. He’s got four-way mobility to spare. And with a shot that he can fire in-stride and passing skill to match, he’s always a threat to make something happen in open ice.
