INGLESIDE, Ill — Metra riders faced some delays on Sunday night after a train hit a car near Ingleside.

According to officials from the Fox Lake Fire Protection District, crews were called to the scene just after 8 p.m. and found a car with heavy damage to its front end.

Fire officials said the driver and the passenger were out of the car and walking around when crews arrived on the scene.

In a post on X, Metra officials said it was MDN Train 2621 that struck the vehicle near Ingleside.

Currently, it is unclear what led to the crash and fire officials say it is unknown if the driver stopped at the stop sign before the tracks or if they rolled through.

The train crossing where the incident occurred does not have signal arms, only a stop sign.

Metra said inbound train 2620, which was scheduled to depart Fox Lake at 8:25 p.m., was delayed due to the incident.

Milwaukee North inbound and outbound trains were also stopped near Ingleside due to the crash and Metra officials said extensive delays were anticipated.

It is unclear how long the delays will last.

Both people involved were taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. No passengers on the train were injured.
