Man killed after gunmen open fire on car in Austin

CHICAGO — An investigation is underway on Tuesday after a group of gunmen opened fire on a man sitting inside a car on the city’s West Side, leaving him fatally wounded.

Chicago police say the gunfire erupted just after 9:30 a.m. in the 200 block of North Kilpatrick Avenue in Austin.

According to police, the victim, a 31-year-old man, was sitting inside a parked vehicle in the area when a sedan approached and four armed individuals got out and opened fire.

Officers say they believe the vehicle may have been a Nissan.

Following the shooting, the four individuals got back into the car and fled the scene, heading southbound.

The man was struck several times throughout his body and was dropped off at a west suburban hospital, where he later died from his injuries.

Authorities have not yet identified the victim.

Currently, it is unclear what led to the shooting and authorities say an investigation is underway.
