    Angel Reese breaks down in tears after 2024 WNBA All-Star confirmation

    Angel Reese shed tears of joy after learning she would be a WNBA All-Star in her rookie season, with the ex-LSU star enjoying a standout campaign for the Chicago Sky.

    The 22-year-old was picked No. 7 overall in the 2024 WNBA Draft by the Sky, and she has since set a league record with 11 consecutive double-doubles, placing her in contention for the Rookie of the Year award alongside Caitlin Clark. Reese will team up with Indiana Fever superstar Clark later this month in the WNBA All-Star game against Team USA .

    Reese was emotional after learning of her All-Star selection, tearing up at the news. "Well, we won today, but they just told me I’m an All-Star," Reese said . "I mean, I’m just so happy.

    "I know the work I put in. Coming into this league, so many people doubted me and didn’t think my game would translate, and I wouldn’t be the player I was in college. … I wouldn’t be where I am right now. But I trusted the process, I believed, and I’m thankful that I dropped to [No.] seven and was able to come to Chicago.

    "It’s just a blessing. I can’t thank my teammates and my coaches enough for just believing in me and trusting me. I know all of them are going to come to Phoenix and support me, so I’m really happy right now."

    Reese will team up with Clark, as well as DeWanna Bonner, Aliyah Boston, Allisha Gray, Dearica Hamby, Brionna Jones, Jonquel Jones, Kayla McBride, Kelsey Mitchell, Arike Ogunbowale and Nneka Ogwumike. They will take on Team USA's A'ja Wilson, Alyssa Thomas, Breanna Stewart, Brittney Griner, Chelsea Gray, Diana Taurasi, Jackie Young, Jewell Loyd, Kelsey Plum, Napheesa Collier and Sabrina Ionescu.

    Reese and Clark's chemistry will be one to watch, with the pair having never been teammates before. Their rivalry since college basketball is well documented too. "I don't think I've ever been her teammate before," Clark told reporters.

    "Even with USA Basketball or anything like that. So, I know people are going to be really excited about it. But I hope it doesn't take away from everybody else. This is a huge accomplishment for everybody on Team USA and everybody on Team WNBA.

    "They all deserve the same praise. I don't want it to take away from any of that and just be the focal point of All-Star weekend because that's not fair to them."

    This season, Clark is is currently leading all rookies in scoring (16.0), assists (7.1), 3-pointers (2.7 per game), and minutes played (34.4). She ranks second in steals (1.3) and fourth in rebounding (5.7).
