NASCAR Cup Series driver Kyle Larson.

Shane van Gisbergen may be the favorite to win Sunday's Grant Park 165, but Kyle Larson has something to say about that.

Larson topped the charts in Saturday's NASCAR Cup Series practice session on the streets of Chicago, with van Gisbergen — the defending winner of the Grant Park 165 — coming home second.

While two veterans took the top two spots, 21-year-old Ty Gibbs was third fastest in practice, with Daniel Suarez and Alex Bowman rounding out the top five.

Bubba Wallace's road-course struggles have been well documented, but the driver of the No. 23 Camry was sixth fastest on Saturday, with road-course ace and 2020 series champion Chase Elliott in seventh.

Wallace's teammate Tyler Reddick was eighth-fastest in practice, with Michael McDowell and Denny Hamlin closing out the top-10.

Three-time 2024 winner Christopher Bell was 13th in fastest in practice, a shockingly slow result for a team that has been among the fastest in NASCAR since late May.

Other notable practice results include Ryan Blaney in 16th, William Byron in 18th, A.J. Allmendinger in 23rd, Kyle Busch in 27th and Nashville winner Joey Logano in 32nd.

MBM Motorsports driver Josh Bilicki brought up the rear of the field, posting a lap over seven seconds slower than that of Larson.

No driver ran more than 12 laps in Saturday's practice session, so Sunday's race will likely be a battle of unknowns.

The Grant Park 165 will go green after 4:30 p.m. ET on Sunday, and coverage will be provided on NBC, MRN and SiriusXM NASCAR Radio.
