NASCAR Cup Series driver Kyle Larson.

Kyle Larson continues to be the class of the field in NASCAR Cup Series qualifying.

On Saturday, the 2021 Cup Series champion won his fifth pole of the 2024 season, beating Ty Gibbs by just one-hundredth of a second to earn the first starting spot for Sunday's Grant Park 165.

After being bested by Shane van Gisbergen for the Xfinity Series pole earlier in the day, Larson put together a lap that was good enough to best van Gisbergen, who could only run one lap in the session. van Gisbergen ended the day fifth on the speed chart, two spots worse than his third-place qualifying effort in 2023.

Before being leapfrogged by Larson and Gibbs, Michael McDowell seemed to be on track for a would-be fourth pole of 2024. While the veteran put together a good lap, it wasn't enough to earn the pole position.

Tyler Reddick will start fourth for Sunday's race, with his 23XI teammate Bubba Wallace qualifying sixth. Christopher Bell and Alex Bowman qualified seventh and eighth, respectively, with Daniel Suarez and Brad Keselowski rounding out the top 10.

Other notable qualifying results from Saturday include Denny Hamlin in 11th, Ryan Blaney in 17th, Chase Elliott in 18th, Kyle Busch in 19th and AJ Allmendinger in 37th.

Josh Bilicki and Kaz Grala qualified 39th and 40th, respectively, and will take the green flag from the back of the field.

The Grant Park 165 will go green shortly after 4:30 p.m. ET on Sunday, with coverage provided on NBC, MRN and SiriusXM NASCAR Radio.
