Isolated afternoon storms for Chicago ahead of evening showers and thunderstorms

CHICAGO (CBS) — Isolated storms are possible for the rest of Sunday in the Chicago area. Lightning and gusty winds are the primary threats.

Bartlett's Fourth of July Festival was closed on Sunday afternoon and was temporarily evacuated due to weather, Bartlett Police said.

"The fest is closed and being temporarily evacuated due to incoming inclement weather bearing nearby lightning strikes. Please take shelter inside your personal vehicles or at the Bartlett Community Center," police said in a post on X, formerly Twitter.

Scattered showers and storms are possible overnight Sunday into Monday as a cold front approaches the area from the west. Monday's highs will be in the mid-80s.

There is an increasing threat of heavy rainfall Tuesday night into Wednesday as remnants of Tropical Storm Beryl track northward.

Behind this system, Thursday into Friday will have lower rain chances and temperatures in the mid-80s.

Heat and humidity will build next weekend, with highs in the 90s and heat index values around 100 by next Sunday.
