Tyler Reddick believes he hasn't 'done a good job' of closing out races

NASCAR Cup Series driver Tyler Reddick.

Tyler Reddick may have finished second in Sunday's Chicago Street Race, but you wouldn't know it by the nature of his interviews.

Reddick's runner-up finish vaults him to third in the Cup Series regular-season standings, just 23 points behind leader Kyle Larson.

When asked if his consistency gave him any solace in losing close races, Reddick seemed adamant that second simply isn't good enough.

"I think in some ways, yes," Reddick said. "But, looking at Nashville, I should've finished first or second and I ran third. Here, we had a great opportunity to contend for the lead and the win on the final lap."

"It's great to have good points days, but you get down towards the end of the year, you've got to win at Phoenix. You have to close out the end of these races. In the last few weeks, I haven't done a good job of that. So I just have to think about it, figure it out and get ready to go at Pocono. The same situation could come up, and we have to capitalize on it."

Reddick's run on Sunday marks his eighth top-five and 13th top-10 finish of the season in 20 races, easily making him among the most consistent drivers in the field. Over the last seven races, Reddick only has one finish worse than eighth - a 22nd place finish at Iowa where Toyota as a whole was off the pace.

While Reddick clearly wants another win on the books, consistency still matters in NASCAR, and with the No. 45 team showing consistent speed week after week, they're bound to break through for their second win of 2024 sooner rather than later.
