The Chicago Cubs came out firing on all cylinders on Tuesday. After winning their series against the Angels, there certainly was momentum on their side. It was going to be a tall task against a team as dominant as the Baltimore Orioles.

Jameson Taillon was going to have to be at his best in limiting such a dangerous offense. The Cubs are on a mission in July to silence the doubters and turn things around once and for all.

    Tale of the Tape

Getting back in the NL Central race is going to be a difficult task for the Cubs. Missed opportunities have been the norm for this team and any hope of optimism is thin. What this team needs is a spark and Michael Busch gave one to start this game out.

The lefty went deep in the 1st inning off Orioles' starter Dean Kremer. Against such a dominant team, the Cubs were the first ones to make a statement and it was crucial for their hopes of winning.

Busch is heating up as the first half draws to a close. He has been one of the few bright spots this season. To give credit where it's due, Jed Hoyer was wise in bringing the rookie into the fold.

To capitalize on the 1st inning fireworks, Jameson Taillon threw a great game against a dangerous Orioles offense. the veteran was on point and continues to do his part on an injury-ravaged staff.

Taillon went six quality innings on Tuesday. Seven strikeouts against the Orioles seems improbable for this team. While cautious optimism remains, it's hard to not enjoy the performance given.

With the Cubs scoring nine runs, Ian Happ was a key member of the hitting display. The outfielder continues to be hot with his latest solo shot to help put the Cubs in the driver's seat.

By the time the 9th inning came around, the Cubs were up 9-2 against the AL East division leaders. Now was the time to deploy rookie Hunter Bigge for his big league debut.

The big question here is why he hasn't been called up sooner. His stuff was electric and mirrors what a closer needs to be successful. If he can bottle this up as he goes along, the rookie has a bright future ahead of him.

    Takeaways

It was crucial for the Cubs to come out swinging in this game. Their opponent is one of the best in baseball and they put themselves in a spot where it's must win. A sweep in Baltimore sounds nice, but it's baby steps for the Cubs right now.

The offense continues to put together quality at-bats in times of need. Michael Busch and Ian Happ are some of the hottest hitters in this lineup right now. For the Cubs to have sustainable success, they need this lineup to continue to produce.

If the Cubs can win a series against the Orioles, it will go a long way in building back the confidence they once had.
