The Chicago White Sox will play a doubleheader against the Minnesota Twins on Wednesday after Tuesday's rainout. The series began with a patented 2024 White Sox loss, where they allowed a three-run lead to slip away in the seventh inning. They are winless against the Twins in eight tries. Erick Fedde and Drew Thorpe will toe the rubber in the twin-bill against Bailey Ober and Pablo Lopez.

The White Sox appointed their 27th man for the day's games. Double-A starter Jake Eder will be in Chicago and available out of the bullpen. In exchange for slugger Jake Burger, Chicago acquired the lefty from the Miami Marlins at last year's trade deadline. Eder allowed 42 earned runs in 74.1 innings over 15 starts for the Birmingham Barons. He will make his major league debut if called upon to pitch.

    Some Minor Things

Before the series opener, the White Sox sent reliever Steven Wilson to Triple-A and recalled righty Jordan Leasure. Leasure relieved Chris Flexen, who completed a quality start in the seventh and quickly coughed up the three-run lead while recording only two outs on Monday.

Recently promoted starting pitcher Ky Bush made his Triple-A debut Tuesday for the Charlotte Knights after a nine-day layoff. The lefty entered mid-game, though the outing unraveled after a strong start. Bush recorded ten outs, allowing three runs on six hits and two walks. He fanned four and surrendered a home run.

    The Final Stand

In other news, third baseman Yoan Moncada began his rehab assignment in the Arizona Complex League on Tuesday. He went 1-4 with a strikeout after being sidelined with a left adductor strain suffered on April 9. Oblique, quad, hamstring, and foot injuries abbreviated Moncada's 2022 season to just 104 games. Back issues kept him out of 70 games in 2023. Moncada has appeared in less than 50% of the White Sox games since 2021.

    What's On Tap Next?

The decision to promote Eder, a member of the 40-man roster, for the doubleheader may be a prelude to an upcoming Triple-A stint. However, before a big-league promotion, he will need considerable improvement over his 5.09 ERA at Double-A.

The White Sox expect Moncada back after the All-Star break, barring any setbacks. The former top prospect is in the last guaranteed year of a five-year extension he signed after the 2019 season. Chicago holds an option for 2025 for $25 million that they will likely decline. Moncada's return will serve as a two-month audition for 29 other teams to observe before his upcoming free agency.
