(WBBM NEWSRADIO) — A Chicago mother of three is calling on lawmakers and social media sites like Meta to better protect women like her from cyberstalking.

Dominque Ward recalls that it all started three years ago. Her ex posted photos to a facebook page of her and her daughters shopping.

“And he found the information out because somebody supposedly sent him videos and pictures.”

Ward says that was only the tip of the iceberg with his alleged cyberstalking. He even admitted to paying people to follow her and send him photos and videos.

“I filed police reports. I've asked state's attorneys to prosecute the violence of orders of protection. I've contacted the FBI. I have reached out to Meta and in each instance I've been ignored.”

It wasn't until the Governor's Office got involved, that the page was deactivated. Attorney Lindsay Nathan says Ward isn't alone when it comes to cyberstalking.

“Users have caught up to the technology. My clients have had their personal information blasted online. Their movements are being tracked, they're losing control over their personal information and hence their personal lives,” Nathan said.

Illinois now has a law called the Civil liability for doxing act, which allows a victim to file a a civil lawsuit against the person who is doxing them. However, experts say the law isn't being enforced.

The Chicago Police last year received 824 domestic related cyber stalking complaints, only 9 resulted in an arrest.
