(670 The Score) The Cubs selected Florida State third baseman Cam Smith with the No. 14 overall pick in the MLB Draft on Sunday evening.

The 21-year-old Smith hit .387 with 16 homers, 57 RBIs and a 1.142 OPS in 66 games this past season, when he earned second-team all-ACC honors.
Smith is 6-foot-3, 229 pounds and bats and throws right-handed.

Smith’s hit tool grades as a 55 on the 20-to-80 scale, according to MLB.com, and his power checks in at 50. He’s from Lake Worth Beach, Florida.

The Cubs’ addition of Smith to their system marked the second straight year they used their first-round pick on an infielder. In 2023, Chicago selected Maryland shortstop Matt Shaw, who also has the versatility to play third base or second base.

At No. 54 overall in the second round, the Cubs selected 20-year-old College of Charleston infielder Cole Mathis, who hit .335 and posted a .472 on-base percentage and 1.122 OPS last season. Mathis was born in Cataula, Ga. and attended Harris County High School in Georgia.

Smith was recommended by area scout Ike Ballou, and Mathis was recommended by area scout M’Lynn Dease.
