New Chicago Bears Playmaker Receives Sobering Take For 2024

The Chicago Bears have made several major additions to their roster in support of No. 1 pick, USC quarterback Caleb Williams. One of those additions was signing running back D’Andre Swift in free agency.

The Chicago Bears know Swift rather well. He spent the first three seasons of his career playing for the NFC North rival Detroit Lions.

Ahead of the 2023 season, he was traded to the Philadelphia Eagles, where everything finally clicked. He put together a career season in the City of Brotherly Love.

In 16 games, Swift carried the ball 229 times for 1,049 yards and five touchdowns. He added 39 receptions for 214 yards and another score.

That was enough for the Chicago Bears to sign him to a three-year, $24 million deal in free agency. After a down offseason for the running back position in 2023, things bounced back in 2024.

But, Swift’s contract is one that some analysts believe the Chicago Bears will quickly come to regret. Will he be able to replicate last season’s success playing behind a weaker offensive line and with a less established offense?

David Kenyon of Bleacher Report certainly doesn’t believe so. He recently wrote up a piece predicting the biggest bust for every NFL team during the 2024 season. For the Chicago Bears, Kenyon’s selection was Swift.

“Chicago charged after D’Andre Swift and rapidly signed him to a three-year contract in free agency. He’s been a decently efficient player through four seasons, too.

The offensive line is still an issue, though, and the Bears’ strength is now at receiver with Keenan Allen and Rome Odunze joining DJ Moore. Swift, who totaled 1,263 scrimmage yards in 2023, might not come close to that number in 2024,” Kenyon wrote.

You don’t select a player such as Caleb Williams to hand it to the running back and take the ball out of his hands. The Chicago Bears are going to be a pass-first team, as Kenyon hinted at.

There is a lot of firepower at wide receiver and tight end, which should make things easier for Swift. Teams will not be able to stack the box against the Chicago Bears, especially if Williams shows he is capable of picking opposing defenses apart.
