Training camps are set to begin across the NFL before the end of the month. However, a number of rookies still have not signed their contracts.

Two of those players are on the Chicago Bears as Rome Odunze and No. 1 overall pick Caleb Williams have not put pen to paper.

During an event over the weekend for his Caleb Cares Foundation, he was asked a question about his contract status and the former USC star gave an honest answer (h/t Colleen Kane of the Chicago Tribune ).

“I’m not handling that,” Williams said. “My lawyers and attorney and everybody, the head of the Bears, everybody up there up top is handling that. That’s not my position that I’m handling.”

Williams does not have an agent, so the truth is that he should be plenty involved in the negotiations. He said his lawyers and attorneys are handling that, which seems surprising. Pro Football Talk’s Mike Florio also mentioned that Williams’ lawyers aren’t permitted to discuss contract matters.

So, Williams' comments are a bit puzzling since he does not have an agent.

When Williams does sign, he should get a four-year deal worth a tad more than that of Washington Commanders QB Jayden Daniels, who inked a four-year contract worth $37.5 million.

With training camp starting Tuesday, all signs point to Williams being there despite him not agreeing to the terms of the contract as of now: “You start getting to the end of the break and you’re training and you’re ready to go,” Williams said. “Really excited. … I’m really happy to be back in Chicago and to get this thing going

The rookies are scheduled to appear for camp on Tuesday, July 16 and players like Odunze and Williams remaining unsigned is a big concern heading into the camp.
