    Number of confirmed tornadoes from Monday's storms continue to grow: NWS

    ROMEOVILLE (WBBM NEWSRADIO) - The National Weather Service has confirmed more tornadoes came through the Chicago area Monday night, with the total now at 11.

    The National Weather Service says so far it has confirmed tornadoes touched down in Channahon, Yorkville, the Near West Side of Chicago, Chicago Lawn, Cedar Lake in Indiana, Justice, Crest Hill, Southern Winnebago County, Byron, Davis Junction and Sugar Grove. They were categorized as EF-1 or EF-0.

    The Channahon tornado appears to have been the strongest, with peak winds estimated at 105 mph.

    One person was killed, a 44-year-old woman in Cedar Lake.

    The night before there were at least six tornadoes, bringing the total to 17 and marking what’s believed to be the first time the weather service had multiple twisters two days in a row.
