(WBBM NEWSRADIO) — “Disrespectful.” That's how a resident passing by the former Tremont Hotel at 100 East Chestnut describes city crews clearing out homeless encampments this week, including a large one near the Dan Ryan expressway.

Many of those residents are being sent to this shelter, which is relatively quiet outside, aside from a few people coming in and out.

One man spoke with WBBM about his situation, comparing it to being moved around like a piece of garbage.

Mayor Johnson has said shutting down the camps has nothing to do with the Democratic National Convention next month, and insisted residents have been offered new places to stay, be it at the former Tremont Hotel or elsewhere on the Mag Mile.
