A local postwoman was horrifically shot and killed outside a home in Chicago this past Friday, leaving residents reeling from the shock .

The assailant approached Octavia Redmond, aged 48, and discharged multiple bullets before making an escape by car, with the incident confirmed by law enforcement officers.

Grieving the loss, local worker Kim Sanders remarked, "I'm looking for my morning smile or my afternoon smile," further expressing her sorrow by saying, "Now, I got to adjust to somebody else."

She mourned further, stating: "My heart is shattered because she was a nice lady. She just come up and down the block and deliver the mail, didn't bother nobody."

Redmond, who had been a dedicated postal worker for over five years, was fatally shot in the daylight hours of approximately 11:38 am CT in the city's South Side, specifically in the West Pullman locale, as confirmed by authorities. Residents reported observing the vehicle moments before hearing upwards of 10 gunshots ring out.

Authorities reported that the victim, aged 48, endured "multiple gunshot wounds" and was grievously transported to a nearby hospital, where she tragically succumbed to her injuries. Her identity has been withheld at present.

As of now, no arrests have been made concerning the deadly shooting, police officials stated.

In response to the heinous crime, the US Postal Inspection Service Chicago Division has announced a reward up to $250,000 for information that could lead to the arrest and successful conviction of the responsible party or parties.

They also emphasized the right to safety at work with the words: "Every American deserves to go to work without fear and return home safely to their families. We will not stop fighting until this is a reality for all letter carriers."
