Angel Reese's Ex-Teammate Reveals Reason For Chicago Sky Trade Request

    By Grant Young,

Despite the Chicago Sky securing an impressive win over the Las Vegas Aces in their final game before the WNBA All-Star Game and Olympics break, the biggest news swirling around the team before the break was that they traded Marina Mabrey to the Connecticut Sun.

This came as a shock to fans; especially because Mabrey seemed to be gelling with Angel Reese and her other Sky teammates.

Then it came out that Mabrey requested a trade out of Chicago.

And Mabrey reveals why she requested this trade in an article from the Chicago Sun-Times that released on July 19.

“I came to play for James Wade, the system he had built and the vision he saw for me,” Mabrey told the Sun-Times. “I don’t like to jump ship, so he left and then I thought, ‘OK, let’s see what happens.’"

James Wade was the Sky's coach from 2019-2023, and led them to a WNBA Championship in 2021. Mabrey was traded to Chicago in February 2023.

Mabrey added that, "After a while, it’s hard you came for one thing, and it didn’t really end up panning out to be the role, position, everything that you were originally planning on being in with [Wade]."

Clearly Mabrey wasn't content with her role in Chicago.
