The Chicago Cubs improved to 48-53 on Sunday with a narrow 2-1 win in extra innings over the Arizona Diamondbacks.

However, the exciting on-field action in Chicago wasn't the only story to emerge from this afternoon's game.

In a tense postgame interview after the Cubs secured their first post-All-Star break victory, Chicago skipper Craig Counsell turned heads after calling out ESPN reporter Jesse Rogers over what he felt was a "bad take."

Specifically, Counsell did not seem to appreciate that Rogers described Christopher Morel's seventh-inning at-bat as him "swinging for the lake."

"Earlier in the game, the at-bats... in the seventh inning... there's a tying run at second, [Morel] looked like he was swinging for the lake there," Rogers said.

"Come on, Jesse," Counsell began. "That's your comment? I think that's a bad take. That's a bad take. He's swinging for the lake? That's a bad take."

Trailing Arizona by one run in the bottom of the seventh inning, Morel stepped to the plate with two outs and a runner on second base.

Despite pushing the count to 2-0, the Cubs 3B/DH ultimately struck out swinging.

"He's having a good at-bat trying to hit the ball hard. It didn't work. The pitcher made a good pitch [and] he made an out," Counsell continued.

With the victory over Arizona on Sunday, Chicago is 10 games back of the division-leading Brewers in the crowded NL Central.

Additionally, the Cubs are now just 3.5 games out of the final wild card spot in the National League.
