Expectations were already high from Day 1 for Chicago Bears first overall pick Caleb Williams, but those expectations keep getting higher as the season creeps closer.

The Bears fully expect that Williams will be the quarterback to change the narrative in Chicago and help lead the team to the next phase as a franchise.

So far this offseason, Williams as looked the part even through all the struggles that has come from facing a top defense on the practice field. The Bears offense, led by Williams, will be a much stronger group in 2024 but the question still remains: How good will Williams truly be during his rookie season?

According to one NFL writer earlier today, Williams could be the best rookie quarterback to ever enter the league. Earlier this morning, an article was published detailing 10 bold predications for the 2024 season , one of those predictions was that Williams will not only break, but shatter, the NFL rookie passing yard record.

The record was set in 2012 by Andrew Luck, who threw for an absurd 4,374 passing yards in his first season with the Indianapolis Colts. That record has since remained, even with an additional game being added to the NFL season, for 12 seasons. Others have gotten close, most recently Los Angeles Chargers Justin Herbert (who came 39 yards short in 2020) and Houston Texans C.J. Stroud (who came 267 yards short in 2023).

Here's what the breakdown would look like for Williams to potentially reach what's become an ever-elusive NFL record, according to Brent Sobleski of Bleacher Report .

"During a full 17-game slate, Williams will need to average 257.4 passing yards per game to beat the figure. Last season, 10 quarterbacks, who appeared in five or more games, averaged more, including rookie C.J. Stroud, though he only appeared in 15 contests." - Brent Sobleski, Bleacher Report

Williams does have one thing going his way that Herbert, Stroud, and even Luck didn't have during their rookie seasons. Williams has perhaps the greatest supporting cast a rookie quarterback has ever seen around him entering the league. The Bears have three stud wide receivers , two big bodied and reliable tight ends , and a dynamic dual-threat running back at Williams' disposal in the passing game.

The Bears have waited over a century for a quarterback to reach the 4,000 yard mark, if Williams can not only surpass that number but also surpass Luck's record-setting number, the team will have a truly special talent in their hands that the rest of the league should be afraid of for years to come.
