CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) — A quick-thinking boater has been credited with saving two men who were seriously injured in a boat explosion on Lake Michigan, and the boater told reporters that God was watching over her and her boat on Tuesday.

A 46-year-old man from Washington and a 55-year-old man from suburban Franklin Park were rescued after their 25-foot powerboat exploded northeast of Waukegan Harbor.

The two were saved by Tonia Logan, who told CBS 2 she spotted the fire while chaperoning a group of teens on the lake.

“As we’re driving toward them, Ella actually said, ‘There’s two men in the water,’” Logan said. “So, we did everything we could to get to them as quickly as we could safely.”

Logan said the men were “floating on a piece of board” when they saw them.

“They were in shock and in a lot of pain,” said Tonya Logan.

Both men suffered burns and smoke inhalation and were taken to a nearby hospital for treatment.
