    Treasurer showing unclaimed property today

A preview of some of the unclaimed property set for auction during the Illinois State Fair will be until 3 p.m. Thursday at the Marine Bank Building in Springfield.

Among the 250 lots up for bid are a woman’s 18-karat gold Rolex Oyster watch and uncut sheets of American currency, along with collectible coins and precious-metal bars.

Some lots will consist of a single item while other lots will have several items. The live auction will take place Aug. 17 at the Lincoln Stage at the Illinois State Fairgrounds.

Chicago Public Schools eye new budget

Chicago Public Schools are set to approve a nearly $10 billion budget Thursday, but are getting pushback from the Chicago Teachers Union.

To balance the budget, CPS said it made cuts to central academic and operational departments. The teacher’s union argues the district is intentionally leaving jobs vacant and the budget cuts will have a negative impact on vulnerable students.

    Quantum partnership announced

A partnership has been announced with the state of Illinois, Cook County and the city of Chicago to build the first US-based utility-scale, fault-tolerant quantum computer at the former US Steel South Works property in the city of Chicago.

The Illinois state budget for the fiscal year 2025 includes $500 million committed to the development of the Quantum Park, including $200 million for the build-out of a Cryogenic Plant to serve the cooling needs for PsiQuantum and other potential users.
