A 32-year-old woman in critical condition is being treated at Stroger Hospital on Sunday afternoon.

She is the only survivor from the vehicle she was traveling in when a hit-and-run driver crashed into her and her two companions on the city's West Side early Sunday morning. Both are now dead.

Debris from the two-vehicle crash remained all over the intersection at Kedzie and Walnut Sunday morning.

Police said a white dodge SUV blew a stop sign and crashed into a green Buick sedan with Minnesota plates, which was carrying the three women, around 4:30 a.m.

Police said the driver of the SUV left the vehicle behind and fled on foot, heading northbound on Kedzie. Investigators at CPD's Major Accidents unit are reviewing pod camera from the intersection and other evidence collected from the scene to try to identify the driver.

The medical examiner has not yet identified the two women, 34 and 47 years old, who lost their lives.
