Chicago Bears head coach Matt Eberflus announced on Tuesday that Caleb Williams will not play in the Hall of Fame game against the Houston Texans this Thursday.

Williams, the standout quarterback from USC, has been a focal point of attention this offseason after being selected with the number one overall pick back in April.

Despite high expectations and significant hype surrounding his professional debut, the Bears have decided to hold him out of the early preseason game.

The decision not to play Williams in the Hall of Fame game is likely aimed at preserving his health and focusing on other aspects of the team’s preparation for the upcoming season.

Eberflus also revealed that several other starters will be held out of Thursday night's game, including their other first-round pick, wide receiver Rome Odunze, who was selected ninth overall.

With the Bears working on refining their roster and assessing every position, Williams' absence from this game gives other players a chance to show what they can do.

While some Bears fans kind of expected Williams' absence, they're still disappointed.

They're eager to see him play and are left wondering about the team's strategy and plans for his debut.

As the preseason progresses, all eyes will be on how the Bears integrate Williams into their game plan and what impact the number one overall prospect will make early in his career.
