Storms to move into Chicago area Monday could be strong to severe 02:56
CHICAGO (CBS) — Waves of showers and thunderstorms will come to the Chicago area overnight Sunday through Tuesday morning, but there will be many dry hours between storms. A front will stall near the Wisconsin line, and disturbances will roll along the boundary from time to time, touching off showers and storms. The greatest chance of storms is near Wisconsin.

With the instability, heat, and humidity in place, some storms on Monday could be strong to severe, especially northwest of the city. The Storm Prediction Center highlights the northwest areas at a Level 2 (out of five) for severe chances.
A cold front will finally drop to the south during the day on Tuesday, so there will be a wet start to the day. Cooler winds off the lake will increase throughout the day, building high waves and dangerous rip currents. Expect hazardous boating conditions for Tuesday.
With the passage of the front, a cooler and less humid pattern takes over for the rest of the week.
