3 Reasons The Chicago Bears Will Make The Playoffs In 2024

The Chicago Bears have generally been struggling for a good part of the last decade. Apart from a couple of playoff appearances in 2018 and 2020, Bears fans have not had much to cheer about. That, however, could very well change in the upcoming years as Chicago has started to build a great team through the draft and trades.

In 2023, even though Chicago’s offense struggled for much of the season, the defense looked to be in good shape. It will not be easy to break through the tough NFC North though. While it is uncertain how the Vikings will look post Kirk Cousins’ departure, the Green Bay Packers are most certainly on the rise and the Detroit Lions are clearly the team to beat from the division.

Having said that, there is definitely a possibility that the Bears can sneak into the postseason with a Wild Card spot in 2024.

Let us explore three reasons why that may be possible.

    Caleb Williams

First and foremost, there has been a lot of hype surrounding the Bears’ No. 1 overall pick of the 2024 NFL Draft, Caleb Williams.

Chicago is known to be one of the most unlucky franchises when it comes to having extraordinary quarterbacks.

When Justin Fields was drafted, many thought that the Bears finally had their franchise QB and that things were looking up for the ailing organization. Sadly, though, Fields was not the answer, and now all fans have pinned their hopes on Williams.

Williams is generally perceived in the media and by experts as a franchise-altering quarterback. The 2022 Heisman Trophy winner for USC has the skill to succeed at the highest level, so the only question that remains is, how quickly can he adjust to the NFL?

    Bears’ receiving corps

During the 2024 offseason, Chicago pulled some moves to ensure that they didn’t just draft a talented quarterback. The Bears had already brought in D.J. Moore from the Carolina Panthers the year prior, and this offseason, they added Keenan Allen from the Chargers.

With two quality receivers already on the team, the Bears used the second of their two first-round picks from the 2024 NFL Draft to select Rome Odunze, who is widely considered to be a top receiver. Some feel he is the second-best receiver in the class just behind Marvin Harrison Jr.

Moore, who will be playing in his seventh season in 2024, has had 4 seasons of more than 1,000 receiving yards and had his best showing in the past year. On the other hand, Allen is an 11-year veteran in the NFL and has proven his worth over the years.

As a result, the Bears now have a potent offense that consists of Williams under center who will be throwing to Moore, Allen, Odunze and more.

    Bears’ defense

In 2023, the Bears started terribly on both sides of the ball. But, midway through the season, they brought in defensive end Montez Sweat from the Washington Commanders. This move proved to be a great addition to the team, as Sweat had six sacks and 25 tackles for the Bears in just nine games.

Moreover, the young secondary also started to come together nicely. They ended the year with 22 interceptions which was tied for second. The Bears also finished as the top-ranked defense against the run.

Overall, the Bears have put together a talented roster on the defensive side of the ball. If they can continue the superb performances they had from the second half of the 2023 season, then Chicago could very well find themselves in the playoffs this year.
