The free fall continues for the Chicago White Sox.

On Monday, Andrew Benintendi and the White Sox suffered a series-opening 5-1 loss at the hands of the Oakland Athletics at Oakland Coliseum. It wasn’t just any ordinary loss for Chicago, as it was its 21st in a row, tying the 1988 Baltimore Orioles for the American League record for the longest winless streak.

Benintendi acknowledged his team’s ineptitude following the loss to the A’s, while also implying that the White Sox have no choice but to keep moving forward amid the embarrassing streak.

"You read a lot about it, everybody is writing about it,” Benintendi said, per Daryl Van Schouwen of the Chicago Sun-Times . "It's hard to miss."

"It's tough. Pissed about one loss, let alone 21. So, show up tomorrow."

Benintendi tried to help his team get out of the rut when he sent Andrew Vaughn to home plate with an RBI single in the fourth inning but that was all the offense Chicago could muster during the entire contest.

The 27-88 White Sox have not won a game since the All-Star break. The last time they tasted victory was on July 10 when they beat the Minnesota Twins at home, 3-1.

Chicago will send Jonathan Cannon to the mound this Tuesday with the White Sox hoping they don’t break the AL record for most consecutive losses.
