The Chicago Cubs fell to the Minnesota Twin 3-0 at Wrigley Field in the series opener on Monday. The team moves to 55-60 after the loss.
Here is what you need to know from Monday's contest.
Hendricks gets a Quality Start
The problem on Monday wasn't because of the starting pitching for the Cubs as veteran Kyle Hendricks picked up his third quality start of the season. He allowed two runs to score, including a home run by Twins Manuel Margot in the top of the fifth inning. He recorded five strikeouts and allowed only two walks.
His six innings pitched was only the third time this season Hendricks has gone past the fifth inning.
The Cubs Offense had no answer for Festa
The Cubs batters had a really tough time at the plate on Monday. They only found four hits on the day, and only two against the Twins start David Festa , who was making only his fourth start of his MLB career. Festa fanned nine Cubs batters across the first five innings of the game.
The Cubs struggled against the Twins bullpen as well as they ended with 14 strikeouts on the night. They couldn't capitalize on the minimum opportunities they had as they were 0 for 4 with runners in scoring position (RISP) and left six on base.
There wasn't much, if any to be excited about in the series opener.
What's Next
The Chicago Cubs will look to bounce back and hope the offense doesn't call off from work in the second game of the series against the Twins on Tuesday. The first pitch is scheduled for 8:05 PM EST.
