Kevin Byard Earns Interesting New Nickname From Bears Coach

Kevin Byard has already made his presence felt in his first training camp with the Chicago Bears.
In fact, because of his early impact, the talented safety was christened by Bears defensive coordinator Eric Washington with a new nickname: "Patrol Cop."
It's a reference to Byard's leadership and initiative to ensure that everybody is in line and on the same page.
The interesting moniker was revealed to Byard by NFL Network host Stacey Dales during an interview at the Bears' training camp, and the two-time All-Pro was all for it.
"A hundred percent," Byard said with a smile. "I just try to be myself. I think I'm a natural leader by trade. I kind of dive head-first into everything that is needed to be a professional football player.
"Whether that's doing all the little stuff, extra stuff in the film room, me being super engaged, showing guys what it takes to be an All-Pro. That's what I'll continue to do while I'm here."
The 30-year-old Kevin Byard signed a two-year deal with the Bears last March. Even though he's a newcomer, it looks like he will be a major voice in the locker room.
It's safe to assume "Patrol Cop" will also be a positive presence around rookie quarterback Caleb Williams, as the latter tries to navigate the ins and outs of the NFL and the pressure that comes with being the first overall pick.
The Bears are hungry to return to the playoffs after missing the boat for the past three seasons.
